After trees are harvested and skidded to a landing area, timber haulers come in with their log trucks to load and transport logs to a mill. A typical log truck in Montana will carry 34 foot long logs and a fully loaded log truck is about 55 feet long and weighs around 92,000 pounds.

Timber haulers have organized with loggers in Montana in a group called the Montana Logging Association. The group has over 500 members and is dedicated to advancing the logging and timber hauling professions.
